About Me

header1

Hello and welcome to my blog. I’m Kate and I’ve been blogging since 2005 but since I became a teacher, I have had to do some extensive online housekeeping so this is my latest new home.

I enjoy films and television. I like making things. I love reading and I am passionate about my teaching subject, English. I write when I can and have only just recently given myself permission to think about writing regularly. I am a wife, and a mother to two beautiful kiddos. You will see a bit of all these things here along with anything else that strikes.

This latest incarnation of my blog marks a shift in gears. I have struggled to find a rhythm writing here and so I am trying something different. Gone is ‘Mama Kate’ and now I will be focusing in those simple (and sometime not so simple) pleasures and glories that make this life so wonderful. My new blog title was inspired by an extract from Barbara Kinsolver’s High Tide in Tucson which was part of a weekly journalling prompt by Erin Loechner. It struck me so hard and felt so true.

  1. I ran across an article a year or so ago that listed books that everyone should read at least once and To Kill a Mockingbird was on the list. So I reread it and enjoyed it as much the second time as I did the first! Glad to see it’s on your list!

  2. Hi Kate!

My name is Megan Dijong from TheNewFamily.com, I am the project manager for the New Family’s 1,000 Families Project, which has won us Best Blog by the Canadian Online Publishing awards. What we do is find 1000 families with interesting and unique lifestyles, traditions, and relationships. Your story can even be about friends who you consider family. We ask that you talk about a personal or unifying growth that you’ve experienced with your family and friends. We believe that everyone has a story to tell and what we’re aiming to do is find 1000 ways to be a family.

We would be honoured to have your story featured on our blog. If you are interested please let me know, I will then follow up with a guideline on how to write a 1000 families post. We require that our writers contribute a short story with a minimum of 750 words, along with a family picture. Once we have your story we will promote your blog by linking your story to your blog so that our Canadian readers can refer to it after reading. Your story will also be featured on our Facebook and Twitter page. In the meantime, you can check us out http://thenewfamily.com/tag/1000-families-project/

Looking forward to hearing from you, have a great day!
