On Evelina’s first birthday, I proudly presented her with the quilt that I had lovingly made for over a year (so started when she was not even yet born). I had chosen gorgeous Tilda fabrics and roughly followed a pattern. My inexperience did not matter because the end result was lovely and special. When I had Austin, I wanted to do the same for him. And I did. It just took a little longer.

Project Life 2017 Weeks 2-6
I am really enjoying working on the weekly Project Life spreads for this year. I am noticing that I am able to add much more journaling compared to the historic album I am working on (currently at July 2015). Our printer has decided to be awkward so I will either have to send off the photos for the next couple of weeks or hope that the new cartridge I have ordered will do the trick. I hope I can get it sorted as it is gratifying to be able to print the photos, write the journal cards and get the weekly spread done all in one go (and I usually manage it during naptime).
A Week in the Life
Yesterday was the first day of documenting the every day and ordinary which is A Week in the Life, run by Ali Edwards. Last year’s was in August and I managed to get my album finished on Sunday.

A Week in the Life 2015 by Slidely Slideshow
I am now embarking on another week of documenting and I have realised I really love this project because most documenting that I manage to get done tends to be the special events or holidays etc. This allows me to look back and see how we were loving our normal lives. It will be great to see how these lives evolve year on year. Ali is all about championing our stories and reminding us that our stories matter.
Baby Boy Quilt
After much deliberation, I have finally made a decision about Austin’s quilt fabric and bought two Chic Neutrals layer cakes. I plan on making a relatively simple block quilt using Amy Ellis’s Talk of the Town quilt pattern as inspiration.
I will keep you posted but don’t be expecting any news any time soon! Who knows when I will get around to making this!!
Making for Baby Boy
It’s been a ridiculously long time since I sewed anything more than a button. I am hoping that I will get to make at least of couple of projects that are at the very early stage of I Want to Make It.
Like I did for Evelina, I want to make a twin bed size quilt for Baby Boy. I have really struggled to find the fabric I want, though, and I may have to resign myself to paying high import fees / VAT and buy it from the States. These are a couple of quilts I have seen on Etsy that are inspiring my vision for the nursery and I would love to get fabrics like these (in similar colouring).
I also want to make a wall hanging for the nursery inspired by this wall mural:
I have bought some fabric for this project so I am hoping to make a start on it this week.
5 Things I want to do in January
- Choose fabric for Baby Boy’s quilt
- Sort out the nursery
- Write some long overdue blog posts for Raising Evelina
- Batch cook some scrummy dinners
- Have a baby
A Week in the Life
I took an Ali Edwards Storyology workshop some time ago and have wanted to participate in another workshop but have not managed to find the time. When I saw that her Week in the Life project ran during the summer break, I took the plunge and ordered the kit, knowing that this would make it much more like to happen.
Today is the first day of that week and I am really happy with the photos I have taken to document my day. I still need to work out how I am going to fill the plastic pocket pages but this seems like it will be fun and illuminating as I try to capture the ordinary for a change. It is also one of my 39 Things; I’ve already managed to do 14 of these since 28 July.
A Week of Photo a Day
One of my 39 Things was to take a photo a day for a week which I did last week. Using the prompts from Fat Mum Slim, these are my photos:
I am getting on well with my list of 39 Things so far this summer and today I am starting the A Week in the Life project to document a normal week which will tick off one more thing.
5 things I want to do at half term
- Take some pics of the new house. The one above is a taster!
- Write some more of my book.
- Catch up on home admin as it’s stressing me out – I don’t recommend losing all your important documents when you move house, by the way.
- Watch Vampire Diaries – I was bought season 1 ages ago and haven’t got round to watching it yet.
- Read a damn book.
My 38 Things List
I am exactly a month late with this as my birthday was a month ago today but my 38 Things list is now done with a few things already crossed off (I do like to make a list with some already completed items on there).
I hope I can get through it all this year. I will keep you posted!
