Making for Baby Boy

It’s been a ridiculously long time since I sewed anything more than a button. I am hoping that I will get to make at least of couple of projects that are at the very early stage of I Want to Make It.

Like I did for Evelina, I want to make a twin bed size quilt for Baby Boy. I have really struggled to find the fabric I want, though, and I may have to resign myself to paying high import fees / VAT and buy it from the States. These are a couple of quilts I have seen on Etsy that are inspiring my vision for the nursery and I would love to get fabrics like these (in similar colouring).

I also want to make a wall hanging for the nursery inspired by this wall mural:

I have bought some fabric for this project so I am hoping to make a start on it this week.

Bird for the Soul

Made tonight. Now back to marking books…

When time is so precious and work is talking over, it is very easy to stop doing the things that you love but that are not essential to your day-to-day life. For me, crafting has always been something that I love but not something that I need. So it has been something I have stopped doing at home almost completely.

On Wednesday, I went along to the sew make believe fabric bird workshop knowing I wanted to be there but thinking I ought to be marking or lesson planning. I did not go because I needed to craft but because I needed to give my support to Zoe and because I wanted to see some friendly crafter faces.

I spent an hour and a half making this bright fabric bird, using gorgeous Moda fabrics, and when I was finished, I had such a sense of calm. I felt I had actually achieved something, a feeling all to elusive at the moment as I grind my way through my course and a failed interview. I felt content and at peace. I realised I need craft.

So thank you to my sew make believe friends, thank you particularly to Zoë for all that she has done to keep this club going while I am busy trying to become a teacher and Cie is busy with her two baby boys. And thank you to craft for making me feel good despite of everything.

Happy Halloween

I didn’t have time to make a decoration for Halloween this year so instead a put together this old candle in a new arrangement, very much inspired by my sew make believe buddy Zoë in her post today about her Halloween decorations. I already had the charger plate from our wedding Portmeirion set and I bought the candle a few Halloweens ago. I simple added some black buttons around the base of the candle to make it look a bit more polished. Here are my decorations from last year:

Winter Cabin

It’s that time of year again when I can’t help but add to my holiday felt ornament kit collection. All the kits are by Alicia Paulson and I love each kit (although I have so far only completed 2 of the 5 kits I now have).

I love Alicia’s kits because they are beautifully designed, the materials are lovely and the instructions are very clear.

She also includes a lovely thank you postcard and business card, adding some more pretty to my inspiration board.

Ice Skating Afternoon
Walk in the Woods

I have already made the Ice Skating Afternoon kit and the Walk in the Woods kit and since I want to make them in order (one of my little OCDish quirks), I will be making the Snow Day kit next, although I might need some help from my sew make believe buddies with the tiny crochet scarf.

If you haven’t already, you must read Alicia’s Posie Gets Cozy blog too. She is quite a lady.
